With the new urban development around Hindon Airport and Raj Nagar Extension, Ghaziabad's transport infrastructure is being talked about. The proposed Ghaziabad Aerocity is expected to be a mixed use development with commercial spaces, institutional facilities, shopping centers, and visitor accommodation. The connectivity with Hindon Airport may play a significant role in the future development of the region. The proposed road link is, however, still being assessed, and it is important to differentiate between existing transport facilities and those still in the planning phase.
Understanding Ghaziabad Aerocity and Hindon Airport
Hindon Airport is a civil airport located near Sikandpur, Sahibabad, which is an air force station. It is operated by the Airports Authority of India and offers domestic air connectivity as part of the government's regional connectivity programme. It is also very convenient for the passengers coming from Ghaziabad and other parts of the National Capital Region (NCR).
The proposed Ghaziabad Aerocity is proposed to be developed near the proposed international cricket stadium at Raj Nagar Extension. The development will include commercial and institutional buildings, malls, shopping complexes and visitor accommodation. The proposed township will be linked with Hindon Airport, which will enhance the connectivity between the air travel facilities and emerging urban activity centres.
Current Status of the Aerocity–Airport Road Link
The Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA) started the survey of the possible road alignment between Hindon Airport and the proposed Aerocity township in October 2026. The authority is evaluating possible options to create a more direct link between the two sites. The survey is designed to find a proper alignment and solve the existing traffic congestion in the airport to Raj Nagar Extension.
The Aerocity is proposed to be developed in phases of about 50 hectares each, over an area of about 200 hectares. GDA is also in the process of obtaining landowner consent. The airport connection is still being surveyed and the final alignment and construction timetable has not yet been finalized as of October 2026. So the proposed road should not be regarded as an operational road yet.
Existing Road Connectivity Between Hindon Airport and Raj Nagar Extension
The commuters who are travelling between Hindon Airport and Raj Nagar Extension mostly use Delhi-Wazirabad Road and cross the Hindon River bridge before reaching the road network of the township. Traffic in Delhi as well as on the Hindon Elevated Road can lead to traffic congestion on the existing roads.
This new connection could serve as a different route, with a shorter route and diversion of traffic to other routes. The efficiency of the same will depend upon the alignment of the new road as well as access control to this road.
The existing infrastructure provides for movement in Ghaziabad:
Hindon Elevated Road: This links UP Gate area with Raj Nagar Extension and helps to move between Delhi side entry points and Ghaziabad.
NH-9: Provides road connectivity towards Delhi, eastern Ghaziabad and other parts of the NCR.
Delhi-Wazirabad Road: Part of the existing road to reach Hindon Airport from Aerocity side.
Local road network: Linking Raj Nagar Extension with Delhi-Meerut Road and various residential and commercial areas in Ghaziabad.
Metro and Regional Transport Connectivity
Road improvements are just one component of the region's transport system. Delhi Metro Red Line is available in Ghaziabad, which runs from Shaheed Sthal (New Bus Adda) to Dilshad Garden. Hindon Airport is also close to Major Mohit Sharma Rajendra Nagar Metro Station, which is another public transport facility for the travellers.
The Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut Namo Bharat corridor further enhances the regional connectivity between Ghaziabad and Meerut. These transport facilities can facilitate movement within the NCR and enhance the accessibility of the residents and workers of the proposed Aerocity.
But, the current metro network and the working Namo Bharat corridor do not have any direct rail link to the proposed Aerocity. Any extension of the metro or dedicated airport transport system would need to be approved and confirmed separately.
How Proposed Connectivity Could Support Urban Development
There is a need for a more direct road connectivity between the airport and the proposed Aerocity, which would enhance the accessibility of the businesses, visitors and residents. As development continues and businesses open up, the planned commercial, institutional, retail and accommodation facilities could result in further traffic.
The proposed connection may also be useful for the upcoming residential township of Harnandipuram, which is spread over around 501 hectares around Raj Nagar Extension. Enhanced road connectivity between these developments would help in movement towards Loni, Muradnagar and Modinagar, and also help in reducing the pressure on existing roads. These benefits are still to be realised until the road alignment and supporting infrastructure are finalised.
What It Means for Ghaziabad’s Real Estate Market
Enhancements to connectivity can have an impact on the way that buyers and businesses evaluate residential and commercial sites, especially when new employment centres, retail outlets and visitor-focused developments are being planned. The Aerocity project and its planned airport link may draw more attention to the area of Raj Nagar Extension and its environs.
Nevertheless, a route survey is not a guarantee that construction of a road and its operational date will happen. It is important to distinguish between current infrastructure, announced plans and finished projects for the benefit of buyers and investors. When it comes to evaluating the effect on the local property market, the selected route and construction process become relevant.
Conclusion
The proposed alignment of Ghaziabad Aerocity and Hindon Airport is a significant infrastructure project for the city's urban expansion. GDA's survey is a step towards finding a more direct route, and the existing roads, metro services and Namo Bharat network offer broader regional connectivity. The benefits could be enhanced access to the airport, improved traffic distribution and improved connections with planned residential and commercial developments. The proposed road is still being assessed, however, the impact of the road will be determined by the final alignment and approvals and implementation.
